NAKURU, Kenya – Four police officers in Nakuru County have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a colleague during a night patrol in the Maai Mahiu area.
According to a police report seen by Citizen Digital, the officers — Jim Murithi, Emmanuel Sang, Antony Wangombe, and Joshua Keter — were detained at Naivasha Police Station after investigations linked them to the shooting and an alleged attempt to conceal the circumstances surrounding the death of Corporal Hassan Lolkidid.
The incident occurred on the night of October 29, 2025, when a seven-member patrol team from Maai Mahiu Police Station responded to a tip-off about a suspicious lorry being offloaded with tyres and hardware materials at Msikiti area, about one kilometre from the station.
Police said that as the officers approached, about ten men at the scene fled in different directions. Moments later, gunfire erupted during the ensuing pursuit.
Corporal Lolkidid was later found with a gunshot wound to the chest and pronounced dead.
Initially, members of the patrol team denied firing their weapons, claiming they could not establish the source of the gunfire.
However, ballistic investigations and internal inquiries later pointed to inconsistencies in their accounts, prompting the arrest of the four officers.
Five firearms — including Jericho and Ceska pistols — were seized from the officers for forensic analysis.
The lorry involved was also towed to Maai Mahiu Police Station as part of ongoing investigations, while the officer’s body was moved to Umme Funeral Home for post-mortem examination.
Police sources indicated that preliminary findings suggested an effort by the suspects to cover up the shooting, leading to their detention.
The four officers are expected to be arraigned on October 31, 2025.
