NAIROBI, Kenya — Homa Bay County has confirmed its second Mpox case, involving a 44-year-old man from Koduogo, Ndhiwa sub-county, who developed symptoms while invigilating KCSE examinations at Okok Secondary School.
The patient is currently under isolation at Homa Bay Teaching and Referral Hospital, according to County Government Spokesperson Atieno Otieno.
The county’s first case involved a 41-year-old man who had travelled from Kisii and developed symptoms while visiting a relative in Shauri Yako. Both patients are being monitored by a multi-sectoral coordination team, tasked with containing the virus and preventing further spread.
Ms. Otieno urged residents to avoid close contact with anyone showing Mpox symptoms, including rash, fever, and swollen lymph nodes.
Meanwhile, Kisumu County has reported its first Mpox case, affecting a 42-year-old man who travelled from South Sudan and began exhibiting symptoms while still in Juba.
He was admitted to Kisumu County Referral Hospital after boarding a Simba Coach bus on Tuesday, November 19.
County Executive Committee Member for Health, Dr. Gregory Ganda, urged anyone who was on the bus to seek medical evaluation and pledged increased surveillance across county health facilities to support early detection and management of the virus.
The developments highlight ongoing vigilance in western Kenya, as health authorities intensify monitoring to prevent further Mpox transmission.
