NAIROBI, Kenya — The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has cautioned Kenyans against fraudulent job advertisements circulating on social media platforms, warning that the posts are designed to mislead job seekers.
In a statement issued Friday through its verified communication channels, the electoral body said several online posts claiming to advertise official IEBC employment opportunities are fake and not connected to the commission.
“Fake Jobs Alert! Beware of fraudulent job advertisements on social media. The IEBC official jobs portal is https://jobs.iebc.or.ke,” the commission said.
The agency urged members of the public to rely only on its official website and verified platforms for accurate recruitment information.
“For accurate and up-to-date information, please visit our official website and our verified social media platforms,” IEBC added.
Fake recruitment notices are circulating
According to the commission, several misleading posts have recently circulated online purporting to offer employment opportunities linked to preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Some of the advertisements claim that a recruitment process has already begun and that shortlisted candidates will receive notification via email after submitting applications.
Other posts mimic official public notices and include links that appear to lead to legitimate job portals. One example shows a portal-style interface with instructions inviting applicants to “submit your application now” by entering personal information such as full names and nationality.
The commission has dismissed all such posts as fraudulent, warning that they are not affiliated with any official recruitment process.
Rising online scams
IEBC’s warning comes amid a broader rise in online scams targeting job seekers, particularly through social media platforms where fake recruitment advertisements have become increasingly common.
The commission advised Kenyans to verify any recruitment information before sharing personal details or submitting applications online.
Official recruitment exercise
The clarification follows a recent legitimate recruitment exercise announced by IEBC to support voter registration activities across the country.
On February 25, the commission invited applications for 12,520 temporary positions to support a 30-day Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise at the ward level.
The roles advertised included voter registration assistants, voter registration clerks, and ICT clerks, with the commission encouraging young people to apply.
According to IEBC, voter registration clerks account for the largest number of positions, followed by voter registration assistants and ICT support staff. Successful applicants are expected to support the intensive ward-based registration process aimed at boosting the country’s voter register.

Electoral preparations
The voter registration exercise forms part of broader preparations for future electoral processes as Kenya moves closer to the next general election cycle.
IEBC emphasised that all official recruitment notices will only be published through its authorised channels, urging job seekers to remain vigilant and report suspicious advertisements.
“Always verify before you apply,” the commission said, reiterating that its official jobs portal remains the only legitimate source of employment information related to the electoral body.
