ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia – As Sudan’s conflict drags into its second year, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has doubled down on efforts to push for a peaceful resolution.
At the IGAD Forum of Special Envoys in Addis Ababa, IGAD Executive Secretary Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu stressed the need for a coordinated and unified mediation process, reaffirming the regional bloc’s commitment to Sudan’s sovereignty and stability.
“As Sudan’s war enters its second year, our focus and thoughts remains with our Sudanese brothers and sisters. Despite the challenges, I believe a unified mediation effort offers the best path to a negotiated resolution,” Dr. Workneh stated on his official X account.

Dr. Workneh underscored that Sudan’s sovereignty must be safeguarded and that a peaceful resolution can only be achieved through negotiations.
His remarks come amid growing concerns over the deepening humanitarian crisis and continued fighting between rival factions in Sudan.
