Jeff Mwathi Death: Pathologist Dr. Peter Ndegwa Ordered to Testify in Court

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – The Milimani Law Courts has summoned Chief Government Pathologist Dr. Peter Ndegwa to testify in the ongoing inquest into the death of Jeff Mwathi, who allegedly fell to his death from an apartment in Kasarani in February 2024.

Milimani Principal Magistrate Rose Ndombi directed Dr. Ndegwa and two other pathologists who conducted post-mortems on Mwathi’s body to appear in court on October 21, 2025, citing the high public interest in the case.

Lawyer Duncan Okatch, representing musician Lawrence Njuguna, popularly known as DJ Fatxo, underscored the significance of Dr. Ndegwa’s testimony, noting that he was the first to examine Mwathi’s body when it was still intact.

“The findings of this doctor are very crucial, not only to my client but also to the family. They feel he should appear physically and support his report,” Okatch told the court.

He added that while a second post-mortem was inconclusive due to decomposition, Ndegwa’s initial report remains pivotal in establishing the circumstances of Mwathi’s death.

The court heard that Dr. Ndegwa had not provided reasons for his absence despite earlier directions requiring key witnesses to testify in person.

Magistrate Ndombi adjourned the proceedings, saying the matter could not proceed without the pathologist’s testimony, despite both the prosecution and defence having lined up witnesses for the session.

Mwathi’s death, initially reported as a suicide, sparked public outrage and calls for justice, with allegations that he may have been pushed from the apartment window.

The inquest continues to draw national attention, particularly because of the involvement of DJ Fatxo, who is set to testify later.
