Kenya Power Lists Areas To Experience Blackout On Thursday

NAIROBI, Kenya — Kenya Power will cut electricity to parts of Nairobi, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Coast, Western, and Rift Valley counties on Thursday, December 4, 2025, to allow for maintenance and system upgrades, the company announced in a public notice.

The scheduled outages, which will affect thousands of customers, are expected to take place between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., with some areas going offline earlier in the day depending on progress. The utility urged residents and businesses to plan accordingly to avoid disruptions.

Affected Areas Include

  • Nairobi Region: Parts of Nairobi North — including Home Road, Nairobi National Polytechnic, Don Bosco High School, Kipande Athumani Street, Mwangi Road, Racecourse, Barakaat Hospital, Muratina Street, Jam Street, Ushirika Estate and neighbouring areas — will be without power from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. In Nairobi South, the Tassia NGO area and adjacent customers will lose supply from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Kiambu County (North-Eastern Region):
    • Kwa Maiko, Marige, Miguta, and surrounding villages such as Kanaji, Miguta, Nyaga Shops, Kiburu, Kamburumu, Kanjuku, and others will face power cuts between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
    • Uthiru Shopping Centre, Uthiru 87, Muthiga, Kinoo, and surrounding areas will also be affected from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Kirinyaga County (Mt. Kenya Region): Residents of Makutano, Rukanga, and nearby zones, including Tebere Concrete, Wachoro Boys Secondary School area, Kiaminji, and others will be without electricity from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Coast Region:
    • In Kilifi County, parts of Sabaki — including Mwembe Resort, Gongoni, Marafa, Last Beach and adjacent customers — will experience outages from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
    • In Taita Taveta County, the entire town of Maktau, Godoma, Lumo Conservancy, hotels and neighbouring areas are scheduled for power cuts from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Western Region (Kakamega County): The Chimoi area — including Kaburungu, Manda, Matutu, Mukhonje, Bishop Njenga Girls and surrounding customers — will also be affected between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
  • Central Rift Region:
    • Parts of Bomet County (Dikirr, Mokondo, Kirindon) — including Esolit, Mambo Leo, Kapwebe, Simotwet, Kapwelia and nearby homes — will have power off from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
    • Kapsoit Market area in Kericho County — including Ernest Tea, SPI, Keriveset, Ngejiero Water Pump and adjacent customers — will go without power from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Kenya Power reminded affected customers to make contingency plans, including rescheduling critical power-dependent activities, charging devices, and safeguarding perishable goods. The company also said the supply may be restored earlier than scheduled if maintenance work is completed sooner.

As the country braces for the outages, citizens are urged to monitor official Kenya Power communications for updates and restoration schedules
