Kenya Power Announces Planned Outages in 11 Counties

NAIROBI, Kenya — Kenya Power has announced planned power interruptions across 11 counties on Thursday, March 5, as part of scheduled network maintenance.

In a public notice issued on Wednesday, the utility said the outages will affect parts of Nairobi, Makueni, Kisii, Nyamira, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Tharaka Nithi, Laikipia, Taita Taveta, Kwale, and Kiambu counties.

Nairobi County

In Nairobi, electricity will be interrupted from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. in parts of Ngara.

Areas set to be affected include Pioneer University, Guru Nanak Hospital, Pangani Girls, Pangani Police Station, Radiant Hospital, Fairview Road, North View Road, Muratina Street, Jam Street, and adjacent customers.

Power will also be switched off in parts of Lang’ata and Karen during the same hours.

Affected areas include Banda, sections of Magadi Road, Kisembe Road, Safe Park, Parkview, KWS, Brooke House, Catholic University, Apostle of Jesus, Bogani East, Bogani East Close, St. Aquinas Seminary, Icolo, and nearby customers.

Makueni and Kisii

In Makueni County, Makindu and Kibwezi areas will be without electricity between 9.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m.

Locations listed include Makindu, Kiundwani Market, Mbuinzau, Kibwezi, Kinyambu, Kambu, Lukenya University, Mtito Andei, Kisayani, Ikutha, Mutomo, and Mutha.

Parts of Kisii County, including Riana and Nyamira Ndogo, will also experience outages within the same timeframe.

Areas affected include Ekiendege, Nyotoima, Riana Market, Riana Level 4 Hospital and surrounding customers.

Nyamira, Nyeri, and Kirinyaga

In Nyamira County, Matunwa, Gesima, and Mosobeti will face blackouts from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m., affecting Matunwa Tea Factory, Enchoro Royal Media, Motagara, Nyataro, and Omwoyo, among others.

In Nyeri County, areas including Kiru, Gatunguru, and Kihoya will be affected during the same hours. Facilities impacted include Gatunguru Tea Factory, Kiru Tea Factory, Kirimahiga Coffee Factory, Kiriti Girls, Mathioya Water, and several markets.

In Kirinyaga County, the Beckham Hotel and Ithareini areas will also experience power interruptions from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Kenya Power technicians

Tharaka Nithi and Laikipia

In Chuka and the surrounding areas in Tharaka Nithi County, including Giampampo and Ndagani, outages will run from 8.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m., affecting Chuka Boys, Ndagani Market, and nearby locations.

In Nanyuki and parts of Laikipia County, including Likii, Kangaita, and Kalalu, electricity will be off from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. Key institutions affected include Nanyuki Law Courts, Nanyuki Police Station, and several farms, schools, and hotels.

Coast and Kiambu

In Voi, the Manyani area will experience outages between 9.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m., affecting Devki Manga, Manyani Prisons, and the KWS Law Enforcement Academy.

In Ukunda, parts of Ukunda Town, Kosovo, Mwabungo, and Mvindeni Market will also face interruptions within the same hours.

In Kiambu County, electricity will be interrupted in parts of Athena and Muthaiga from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Additional outages will affect areas around Acme Containers and Norbrook (K) Ltd during the same period.

Kenya Power said the interruptions are necessary to facilitate system maintenance and upgrades.

The company advised affected customers to plan accordingly and treat all power lines as live during the outage period.
