NAIROBI, Kenya – Kenyans should prepare for a week of mixed weather, with sweltering daytime heat, chilly nights, and scattered rainfall expected across different regions between September 9 and 15.
According to the latest forecast, rains will persist in parts of the Highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and sections of the Rift Valley. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are also expected in several areas.
Hotspots to watch
The Coast, North-eastern, and North-western regions will experience scorching conditions, with maximum daytime temperatures rising above 30°C.
Mandera will be the hottest at 37°C, followed by Lodwar at 36°C and Garissa at 35°C.
In sharp contrast, Nyahururu will record the coldest nights at 7°C, while Nyeri and Narok will drop to 9°C and 10°C respectively.
Regional outlook
- Nairobi & Central Highlands: Cloudy mornings with light rains, clearing to sunshine and occasional evening showers.
- Western Kenya & Rift Valley: Sunny mornings, with afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms.
- North-eastern counties: Mostly sunny, with occasional morning rains.
- South-eastern Lowlands: Cloudy mornings before clearing, with generally dry conditions.
- Coast: Largely sunny, though some areas will see morning and night showers.
Strong southerly to south-easterly winds exceeding 25 knots are forecast over the Coast, the South-eastern Lowlands, and northern Kenya.

In the past week, Bungoma recorded the highest rainfall at 91.2mm, including 59.2mm in a single day on September 7.
Mandera posted the hottest day at 37.4°C, while Nyahururu had the coldest night at 7.2°C.
