Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Kenyan referees Gilbert Cheruiyot and Stephen Yiembe have been named among the officiating team for the CAF Champions League final between Egypt’s Pyramids FC and South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns.

The first leg of the final will be played on Saturday, 24 May, in South Africa, with Cheruiyot set to serve as First Assistant Referee and Yiembe as Second Assistant.

The return leg will be held on Sunday, 1 June, at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo.

Both fixtures kick off at 8:00 p.m. East Africa Time.

The two are among the most seasoned match officials in the country, having officiated at top-level tournaments including the Africa Cup of Nations, FIFA World Cup qualifiers, the Olympic Games, and previous CAF Champions League editions.

Yiembe has also been selected as one of the referees for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, scheduled to run from 14 June to 13 July.

He recently secured a US visa, allowing him to take part in the global showpiece after an earlier application was denied.
