Kimani Ngunjiri Lauds Ex-DP Gachagua After Launch of His DCP Party: “Maturing Democracy”

Date:

NAKURU, Kenya – The Future Party of Kenya leader, Kimani Ngunjiri, has congratulated former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua following the unveiling of his new political party, the Democratic Change Party (DCP).

In a post shared on his official X account (formerly Twitter), Ngunjiri observed that the emergence of new political voices is a sign of a maturing democracy.

“On behalf of The Future Party of Kenya, I extend heartfelt congratulations to @rigathi Gachagua and the entire team behind the successful launch of the Democratic Change Party (DCP),” said Ngunjiri.

Ngunjiri, the former Bahati MP, said that he believes that a thriving Kenya is built on inclusion, ideological diversity, and respectful competition.

“There is no war between us—only a shared desire to see Kenya prosper through different lenses and solutions,” added the politician.

He, at the same time, condemned the violent disruptions witnessed during the DCP event.

“Such acts of political intolerance have no place in our democratic journey. Let us stand united in rejecting intimidation and instead embrace dialogue and peaceful engagement,” explained Ngunjiri.

How Rigathi Gachagua launched his DCP party

As the country moves forward, Ngunjiri urged political parties to inspire hope, not hostility; progress, not polarisation.

“Kenya is bigger than any one party—our future belongs to all of us,” added the former lawmaker.

On Thursday, May 15, 2025, Gachagua officially launched his long-rumoured political outfit—DCP—marking a break from President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and signalling a high-stakes power play ahead of the 2027 elections.

At an event held at the DCP’s newly unveiled headquarters on Musa Gitau Road in Nairobi’s Lavington suburb, Gachagua introduced the party’s top leadership.

In a move likely to rattle the UDA establishment, Gachagua named former UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala as his deputy in DCP, placing him second-in-command within the party hierarchy.

Former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi was unveiled as the party’s National Organising Secretary.

Veteran politician Maina Kamanda, a former Jubilee stalwart, also makes a political comeback under the DCP banner, taking up the interim chairperson of eminent persons.

What are the notable features of the DCP party

Hesbon Obanga will serve as the party’s Secretary General.

Though registered as early as February 3, the DCP has been kept under tight wraps by Gachagua’s allies—part of a calculated strategy to avoid early political sabotage, according to insiders.

The party’s slogan—Kazi na Haki (Work and Justice)—is paired with a striking logo showing a hand touching an ear, a metaphor Gachagua says represents a leadership that “listens to the ground.”

Its official colours—green, brown, and black—aim to project a connection to the earth, resilience, and the everyday Kenyan.

Political observers view DCP as Gachagua’s vehicle to consolidate influence in the Mount Kenya region, where discontent has been simmering over what some perceive as neglect by the current administration.

Gachagua has positioned himself as the region’s defender, often criticising UDA’s leadership style and internal dynamics.

With DCP now in the open and its leadership unveiled, all eyes turn to whether the party can mount a credible challenge—or force a realignment—within the current political landscape.
