Kirinyaga Chief Pleads With CS Murkomen Over Stalled Defilement Case

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – A Senior Chief from Kirinyaga County has appealed to Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to intervene in a five-year-old defilement case that he claims has been deliberately frustrated by police officers.

Speaking during a Jukwaa la Usalama forum in Kerugoya on Friday, the Chief recounted how his son was sodomised in 2020 by a “well-known person” but attempts to pursue justice had stalled due to police interference.

“I have even been going to the Kirinyaga County Police Commander in Kerugoya in vain. I am a government officer like them, but they have been refusing to help me. Yet I am the one helping people here — who will help me now?” he asked.

The Chief accused officers from Kianyaga and Kiamutugu police stations of protecting the suspect.

He also alleged that a Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer from Gichugu, who was handling the matter, had failed to assist and instead frustrated his efforts.

“I suspect the officer who was later transferred was working with senior officers in the region. I am being taken in circles whenever I visit a police station, even in the commander’s office in Kerugoya,” he said.

The administrator revealed that the ordeal had deeply strained his family life. His wife abandoned their home following the incident, leaving him to raise their now 18-year-old son alone.

“At first, I thought the police would help me. But right now, I am stressed because even my son was infected. I had no option but to expose this matter to the Cabinet Secretary,” he said.

In response, CS Murkomen ordered fresh investigations into the case and assured the Chief that justice would be served.
