NAIROBI, Kenya — Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), working jointly with officers from the National Police Service, have arrested three suspected armed robbers and recovered a firearm in a coordinated overnight operation in Kirinyaga County.
The suspects—identified as Alex Wanjiku alias Aleko, Job Wachira Wanjohi, and Francis Kinyanjui Wanjiku alias Kinyaa—were apprehended in the Makutano–Ngomongo area following intelligence-led surveillance.
Police said the operation, carried out at around 1:04 a.m., involved officers from Ngong Police Station, DCI units, and personnel from Mwea–Makutano Police Post.
Authorities believe the trio is linked to a violent robbery incident in Ngong on March 12, 2025, during which a victim was shot and seriously injured.
During the arrest, officers recovered a Glock 17 pistol loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition from one of the suspects, a development investigators say strengthens the case against the group.
Police also seized a red motorcycle, registration number KMGD 970K (TVS), suspected to have been used as a getaway vehicle, along with clothing believed to have been worn during the robbery.
The suspects are currently being held at Ngong Police Station as detectives expand investigations to determine whether they are connected to other criminal activities in the region.
The DCI described the arrests as a significant breakthrough in efforts to dismantle organised criminal networks involved in violent robberies.
The operation highlights the increasing reliance on intelligence-led policing, a strategy that security agencies say is critical in tackling sophisticated crime.

Police have urged members of the public to continue sharing information that could assist in ongoing investigations, reiterating their commitment to enhancing public safety and bringing offenders to justice.
