Warui, who had been reported missing in Nairobi days earlier, was later discovered to have been detained in Mombasa — more than 480 kilometres away — where his family was informed of his death.
A post-mortem examination revealed that he died from neck fractures and oxygen deprivation. The autopsy also recorded additional injuries, including a broken hand.
“This raises grave concerns,” LSK President Faith Adhiambo said in a statement, confirming that the society has appointed a lawyer to represent Warui’s family and monitor the investigations.

The lawyers’ body is demanding answers on how Warui ended up in Mombasa without any clear reason and why he died in state custody.
His case now adds to a growing list of unresolved deaths in police cells, including that of Albert Ojwang, whose family is still awaiting justice.
LSK said it is working with civil society groups and the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) to push for a transparent and independent inquiry.
It also commended its Mombasa branch for stepping in to support the family and pledged to provide regular public updates as the case progresses.
