NAIROBI, Kenya – Ticketing company Mookh Africa has apologised to Kenyan football fans after its online platform crashed on Tuesday when automated bots flooded the system during the sale of tickets for the upcoming CHAN 2024 quarterfinal.
In a statement, the firm admitted its system was “overwhelmed” when sales opened at noon, preventing genuine fans from purchasing tickets.
“When sales opened at 12pm, our system was overwhelmed by automated bots, preventing genuine fans from securing tickets as intended,” the company said. “Our team is actively working to stop this so that tickets go to fans—not bots.”
The disruption left many Kenyans frustrated after being locked out of the website or met with error messages.
Later, those who managed to access the platform were greeted with a notice declaring the tickets sold out.
“Sold out. We are sorry, but this event has sold out,” read the message on the site, further fuelling anger among fans.
Mookh, however, assured supporters that it is strengthening its system to block bots and pledged that tickets would be back on sale soon.
“Thank you for your patience and for standing by us. Tickets will be back on sale very soon!” the company stated.
The incident comes amid soaring excitement around the CHAN 2024 tournament, with Kenya’s quarterfinal clash attracting massive demand from local fans and football enthusiasts across the continent.
