Ndindi Nyoro Launches Kiharu Masomo Bora 2026 With Sh500 School Fees and Free Lunch Programme

Date:

MURANG’A, Kenya — Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro on Monday launched the Kiharu Masomo Bora – 2026 Edition, a sweeping education programme that will benefit more than 12,000 learners across 65 day secondary schools in the constituency.

Under the programme, school fees for all-day secondary school learners will be capped at Sh500 per term starting Term One of 2026. All students will also receive free daily lunch, with githeri served three days a week, rice three days, and uji provided during tea break.

Chapati will be served every last Friday of the month.

Nyoro said the initiative is designed to remove financial barriers that force students out of school and to boost performance across public day schools.

To support learning, Sh10 million has been allocated this financial year for revision materials, on top of Sh20 million already provided in previous years. An additional Sh50 million will go towards infrastructure development, with priority given to laboratories.

All Grade 10 students joining 20 identified low-enrolment schools and new schools will receive free uniforms, while each of the 65 schools will receive Sh50,000 for co-curricular activities such as sports, music, and drama.

The programme will also reward performance. Sh900,000 has been set aside for prize-giving ceremonies, split equally between Murang’a East and Kahuro sub-counties.

The best-improved teacher per subject in each sub-county will receive a fully paid trip to Mombasa, while principals from the best and most improved schools per ward will get fully sponsored trips to Dubai or Malaysia.

Nyoro also capped remedial fees at Sh1,000 per term and banned any other school levies or registration fees. The programme will also pay insurance and servicing costs for school buses owned by day schools.

The initiative applies to all students, including those from outside Kiharu, as long as they attend a day secondary school within the constituency.
