NAIROBI, Kenya — The National Youth Service (NYS) has concluded a 15-day Youth Exchange Programme in India, marking a milestone in bilateral youth cooperation and leadership development between the two countries.
In a statement, NYS said the programme provided a platform for cultural exchange, skills development, and international engagement among young people, with a focus on discipline, teamwork, and national service.
According to the Service, the delegation drew key lessons centred on patriotism and national pride, informed by India’s shared history and heritage.
Participants also gained exposure to structured youth organisations, highlighting the role of discipline and collective responsibility in nation-building.
The programme further emphasised cultural appreciation and respect for diversity, with NYS noting that engagement across different traditions and social contexts strengthened participants’ understanding of global citizenship.
“Youth engagement in nation-building emerged as a central takeaway,” the Service said, adding that the exchange reinforced the importance of empowering young people as drivers of national development.
NYS said the experience has strengthened bilateral youth relations between Kenya and India and will inform future youth development initiatives at home.
The Service noted that insights gained during the programme will be integrated into leadership training and community service frameworks under its mandate.

The exchange aligns with Kenya’s broader youth empowerment agenda, which places emphasis on skills development, civic responsibility, and international cooperation as tools for sustainable development.
