Police Arrest 5 Suspects Linked to Damage of Property at Governor Natembeya’s Residence

Date:

KITALE, Kenya— Police have arrested five suspects linked to the vandalism of government vehicles during a raid at Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya’s residence earlier this week.

The suspects were apprehended following a targeted operation in Kitale town, authorities said on Saturday.

The incident occurred on May 19, when officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) arrived at Governor Natembeya’s home to execute a court-sanctioned search warrant.

During the operation, five EACC vehicles were allegedly vandalized by unknown individuals, prompting the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to launch an urgent manhunt.

“Five suspects have been arrested and are currently in custody assisting investigators,” a police spokesperson confirmed, adding that the individuals are expected to be charged with malicious damage to property and other related offences.

Ongoing Investigation and Summons

The investigation has since expanded to include several Trans Nzoia County officials who, according to police, have been “adversely mentioned” in the obstruction of the EACC’s operation.

A formal letter from the DCI’s Kiminini office has summoned nine county employees for statement recording.

They are expected to present themselves for questioning by Monday, May 27, or earlier if available.

Among those summoned are: Emmanuel Wamalwa, Felix Sialo, Felix Musamali, Dancun Macheso, Charles Wabwoba, Sammy Sichangi, Dickson Wamocho, Diana Wabwile, and Truphosa Amere

Police are investigating potential breaches under the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act (ACECA), including obstruction without justification (Section 66) and unlawful damage of public property (Section 48).

The DCI said the operation remains active and further arrests are likely as investigations continue.

“We reaffirm our commitment to a thorough and impartial investigation to ensure all those responsible are held accountable,” the agency said.

The incident has sparked fresh debate on the growing tension between anti-corruption agencies and local government offices, particularly in politically sensitive regions.

Civil society groups have called for transparency in both the enforcement of justice and the handling of public officials under investigation.
