NAIROBI, Kenya- In a candid interview with the BBC, Prince Harry disclosed that he is currently not in communication with his father, King Charles III, and expressed a heartfelt desire for reconciliation.
The Duke of Sussex, who has been residing in California with his wife Meghan Markle and their children since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, emphasized the importance of mending familial ties.
“I would love reconciliation with my family,” Harry stated.
“There’s no point continuing to fight anymore. Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has. He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff. But it would be nice to reconcile.”
The strained relationship between Harry and the royal family has been a subject of public interest, particularly following the publication of his memoir, “Spare,” in 2023.
In the book, Harry delved into personal experiences and tensions within the royal household, including a reported physical altercation with his brother, Prince William.
He acknowledged in the interview that some family members may never forgive him for the revelations made in his memoir.
A significant point of contention has been the issue of security.
After relocating to the United States, Harry lost his publicly funded security detail, a decision he has legally challenged.
A recent court ruling upheld the withdrawal of his taxpayer-funded protection, a move Harry criticized as an “establishment stitch-up,” suggesting royal influence played a role.
He expressed frustration that King Charles refuses to speak to him over the security issue and conveyed reluctance to bring his family back to the UK under the current circumstances.
Despite the ongoing tensions, Harry conveyed a willingness to forgive and move forward.
“I believe in accountability,” he said. “But I also believe in forgiveness. It has to go both ways.”
He emphasized that his desire for reconciliation stems from a place of love and concern for his family’s well-being.
Buckingham Palace has maintained that the courts have thoroughly reviewed the matters concerning Harry’s security arrangements.
The royal family has traditionally adhered to a “never complain, never explain” stance, refraining from public commentary on internal family matters.
As the situation unfolds, the possibility of reconciliation remains uncertain.
