NAIROBI, Kenya – The Ministry of Interior and National Administration has launched a public participation exercise on the Draft National Government Village Elders Policy and the National Government Coordination (Administrative Units) Regulations, 2025.
The initiative, which began on April 15, 2025, aims to involve citizens, civil society organizations, the private sector, and government agencies in shaping policies that will enhance governance and service delivery at the grassroots level.
This nationwide consultation exercise spans ten regional clusters, with forums taking place in key counties such as Nairobi, Eldoret, Nakuru, Kisumu, Kakamega, Nyeri, Meru, Garissa, Machakos, and Mombasa.
These locations serve as hubs for surrounding counties within each cluster, ensuring that a diverse cross-section of the population is included in the consultation process.
The primary goal of these forums is to collect feedback from communities, nyumba kumi networks, religious organizations, and local stakeholders.
By gathering these insights, the government aims to create a robust policy and regulatory framework that supports improved governance, service delivery, and social cohesion within local communities.
The inclusion of various groups, including civil society and the private sector, highlights the government’s commitment to an inclusive process that seeks to understand the needs and concerns of all sectors of society.
These consultations will help fine-tune the Village Elders Policy, which is expected to enhance the roles of village elders in strengthening local governance, resolving disputes, and fostering community engagement.
