Rigathi Gachagua Accused of Illegally Occupying Nairobi Apartment

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Julia Muthoni Mwangi are facing accusations of illegally occupying a Nairobi property without paying the agreed purchase price of Ksh25 million.

In a demand letter dated September 30, 2025, Royal Importers and Exporters Limited, through Adrian Kamotho Njenga & Company Advocates, alleged that the two forcefully gained access to Unit 02 on the first floor of Block D at Skyrock Apartments in Lavington.

The firm claims that Gachagua and Mwangi took possession of the apartment contrary to the terms of the sale agreement, which required full settlement of the purchase price before occupation.

“They have remained in unlawful occupation while deliberately taking our client for a ride,” the letter reads in part.

The lawyers now demand that the two vacate the premises immediately, acknowledge liability for the alleged unlawful occupation, and clear all dues, which will be computed based on current market rates.

The notice further warns that failure to comply will result in legal proceedings, including a possible auction of items inside the apartment.

Neither Gachagua nor Mwangi had responded to the allegations by the time of publishing.
