Royal Media’s Linus Kaikai Among 916 Set for Admission to the Bar

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — Royal Media Services (RMS) Group Editorial Director Linus Kaikai is among 916 petitioners slated for admission to the Bar as Advocates of the High Court of Kenya, according to a gazette notice issued on Sunday, October 26.

Kaikai, a veteran journalist with over two decades of experience in both local and international media, is listed as entry number 394 in the notice, which invites the public to submit any objections within 30 days before the formal admission ceremonies are presided over by Chief Justice Martha Koome.

“Pursuant to section 15(2) of the Advocates Act, the public is notified that the following nine hundred and sixteen (916) persons have petitioned for admission as Advocates of the High Court of Kenya,” the notice reads in part.

Currently serving as Group Editorial Director and Head of Strategy at RMS — Kenya’s largest private media house, operating Citizen TV, Citizen Digital, Ramogi TV, Inooro TV, and Radio Citizen — Kaikai’s anticipated admission marks a new milestone in his illustrious career.

Before joining RMS, Kaikai worked with leading global outlets including the BBC and CNN, where he covered major international stories and honed his reputation as one of East Africa’s most respected broadcast journalists.

He holds a Master’s degree in International Journalism from the University of Westminster (UK), a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of Nairobi, and a Diploma in Radio and Television Production from the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC).

The process of admission to the Kenyan Bar is a rigorous one. Applicants must first obtain an LL.B. degree from a recognized university, complete the Advocates Training Programme (ATP) at the Kenya School of Law, and undergo six months of pupillage. Successful candidates must then pass the Bar Examination administered by the Council of Legal Education (CLE).

Once cleared, petitioners apply to the Chief Justice through the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary for formal admission. Their names are gazetted to allow for public scrutiny before taking the Oath of Admission and signing the Roll of Advocates, officially granting them the right to practice law in Kenya.

Kaikai’s inclusion among this year’s cohort underscores the growing intersection between media, governance, and law, as professionals increasingly pursue multidisciplinary expertise to navigate Kenya’s evolving public discourse.
