NAIROBI, Kenya- President William Ruto is reported to have held a secret meeting with senior Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders in Transmara on Christmas Day.
Critics within the party say the discussions were allegedly aimed at weakening the party from within.
Those who spoke to Y News say a political deal is ahead of 2027, with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), was top of the agenda at the meeting.
Among those reportedly present were Homabay Governor Gladys Wanga, ODM leader Oburu Oginga, and CS Wycliffe Oparanya.
Notably, rebel ODM leaders, including party Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna and Siaya Governor James Orengo, were absent from the meeting.
The talks come amid intense factionalism in ODM following the death of party leader Raila Odinga, with divisions emerging over whether the party should align with UDA, join the opposition led by Rigathi Gachagua, or pursue an independent path.
Political analysts say such meetings could further deepen internal divisions within ODM, with the absence of key leaders like Sifuna signaling growing tension over the party’s strategic direction.
President Ruto has publicly stated that UDA and ODM will enter a deal to form the next government.
Among the top ODM demands are the position of Deputy President.
