Ruto Pledges Sh1 Billion for Classroom Construction in Nairobi

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – President William Ruto has announced that his administration will allocate Sh1 billion to Nairobi County to boost classroom construction, aiming to improve learning conditions for students in informal schools.

Speaking on Tuesday at St. Teresa Girls Secondary School in Mathare, Ruto said the funds will be in addition to the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) allocations. He emphasized the need to expand learning spaces to accommodate the growing number of students in underserved areas.

“We have too many children in informal schools that lack the necessary facilities. That is why, in agreement with your leaders, we have added Sh1 billion to build more classrooms in Nairobi,” Ruto stated.

As part of the initiative, the President pledged 10 new classrooms for St. Teresa Girls Secondary and five more for St. Teresa Primary. He also donated Sh5 million to equip a new dormitory for girls at the secondary school.

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, who accompanied the President, reiterated his commitment to ensuring students remain in school without disruption.

He highlighted the Dishi na County programme, Nairobi’s school feeding initiative, and proposed an expansion that includes providing chapatis in students’ meals.

Sakaja further requested the President’s support in acquiring a machine capable of producing one million chapatis daily for the programme.

President Ruto’s visit to Mathare was part of his weeklong development tour of Nairobi, during which he is set to inspect and launch various projects across all 17 constituencies in the capital.
