NAIROBI, Kenya- Six people have been killed and at least 46 others injured following a fatal road accident involving a passenger bus and a trailer at the Tunnel area along the Londiani–Muhoroni road in Kericho County.
Police said the accident occurred on Tuesday morning when a bus belonging to Uwezo Sacco rammed into the rear of a trailer under circumstances that are yet to be established. Both vehicles were travelling towards the Kisumu direction at the time of the crash.
Kericho County Police Commander James Ngetich confirmed the incident, saying five passengers and the bus driver died on the spot due to the impact.
Casualties and Emergency Response
According to police, 30 passengers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to various health facilities in the county, including Londiani Hospital and Fortenan Hospital, for urgent medical attention.
Another 13 passengers suffered minor injuries, while several others escaped unhurt. Those with slight injuries were treated and discharged.
Emergency responders, police officers, and good Samaritans were involved in rescue efforts at the scene as traffic along the busy highway was temporarily disrupted.
Investigations Launched
Commander Ngetich said police are yet to establish the exact cause of the accident, noting that investigations have been launched to determine what led to the collision.
He urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads, particularly along major highways, to avoid preventable accidents.
The wreckage of the bus was later towed to Fortenan Police Station as part of the ongoing investigations.
