KITUI, Kenya — Three police officers and a civilian died on Sunday evening after a police vehicle from Nguutani Police Station lost control and rolled several times near Mwatungo Primary School, a few kilometres from Kithyoko market along the Matuu–Mwingi Road.
The vehicle was carrying four officers and a civilian at the time of the accident. According to police, one officer died on the spot. A second officer died after being rushed to Kithyoko Level Three Hospital.
A third officer was transferred to Matuu Level Four Hospital but succumbed on arrival. The civilian also died on arrival at the same facility.
One officer survived the crash and is admitted in stable condition at Matuu Level Four Hospital.
Attempts to obtain a comment from the Migwani police commander were unsuccessful, with the officer requesting more time to verify details of the incident.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of the crash.
The accident occurred at a location that residents say has recorded multiple crashes.
Last week, a secondary school teacher died at the same spot after his motorcycle reportedly lost control.
His wife sustained injuries and continues to receive treatment.
The latest incident adds to growing concerns over road safety along the Matuu–Mwingi corridor, a route frequently used by public service vehicles, private motorists, and security agencies. Investigations into the crash are ongoing.
