Uhuru Kenyatta Announces Countrywide Tour to Strengthen Jubilee Before 2027 Polls

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced plans for a nationwide “meet-the-people” tour, signaling his renewed involvement in grassroots politics as Jubilee Party gears up for the 2027 general elections.

The former head of state revealed the plan on Friday during the party’s National Delegates Conference (NDC), where he pledged to spearhead a recruitment drive that will take him to counties across the country, including rural strongholds.

“I will now dedicate myself because we said we want to start a recruitment drive and begin traveling to the grassroots. In every area, let us meet with you and talk together so that we know which direction to take in the future,” he told delegates.

Uhuru, who has kept a relatively low political profile since leaving office in 2022, said the tour will help rebuild connections between party leaders and citizens, and strengthen Jubilee’s presence on the ground.

He urged members to work closely with local leaders, reminding aspirants that elective seats belong to the people and should be sought with humility.

“If you want a seat, the owners of those seats are here. Talk to them well, are we in agreement?” he asked.

The former president also promised to stamp out the wrangles and opacity that have previously dogged Jubilee’s operations.

“Those problems where people were selling tickets and collecting funds… that system is finished. Transparency will be maintained in all the procedures we follow,” he said.

Uhuru further called for unity within the party, warning against divisive politics and emphasizing the need to present a united front ahead of 2027.

He confirmed that Jubilee will field candidates in all elective positions, underscoring its ambition to remain a significant force in Kenya’s political arena.

The grassroots tour is expected to begin in the coming weeks, with Uhuru himself leading the charge—an indication that the former president still wields influence in shaping the party’s direction three years after leaving power.
