NAIROBI, Kenya – The Government of Kenya has hired a U.S.-based lobbying firm, Continental Strategy LLC, to provide government relations and advocacy services ahead of President William Ruto’s upcoming state visit to the United States.
Documents filed on August 6 with the U.S. Department of Justice under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) confirm that the firm will support Nairobi with federal-level lobbying, dissemination of informational materials, and strategic engagement with senior policymakers in Washington.
According to the contract, Continental Strategy will receive a monthly retainer of $175,000 (about KSh 22 million), plus reimbursable expenses such as travel, accommodation, airfare, meals, and car services.
The agreement also contains an automatic renewal clause unless either party provides a 30-day termination notice before the end of the initial 12-month period.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through Principal Secretary Dr. Korir Sing’oei, has been designated as Kenya’s official point of contact.
President Ruto is scheduled to travel to New York next month for the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) before proceeding to Washington, D.C., for bilateral talks with U.S. President Donald Trump.
This will be Ruto’s first official U.S. visit under the Trump administration, with discussions expected to focus on strengthening diplomatic, security, and trade ties.
The visit comes at a critical geopolitical moment for Nairobi. In April, Ruto traveled to Beijing, where his remarks were widely interpreted as signaling a tilt toward China.
Analysts say the upcoming talks with Trump will be closely watched for signs of whether Kenya is recalibrating its foreign policy to reaffirm ties with the West.
Continental Strategy LLC, founded by former U.S. diplomat David Rivera, has previously represented foreign governments and corporate clients seeking to advance their interests in Washington
