The introduction of the e-passport system in Kenya has eased the application, renewal, or replacement of passports online. This article entails the e-passport application procedure, charges, and the requirements when applying for a passport in Kenya.
Application Procedure
- Register on www.ecitizen.go.ke to access government services.
- Log in, go to the Department of immigration services, and select the e-passport application form.
- Fill in the required information.
- Select the mode of payment and make your payment.
- Download the Application form and confirm that the details provided are correct.
- Print the downloaded application form and the other 3 copies of the payment receipt accompanied with the necessary documents.
- Submit the documents to the nearest Huduma Centre or Immigration department for further processing. You must submit the forms in person to ensure your biometrics and the digital passport photo are captured.
The process takes between 10 to 15 days to be completed.
Requirements
- Original national ID and a photocopy.
- The pre-filled e-passport application form
- Your parent’s national IDs and photocopies. If the parents are deceased, carry a death certificate and if adopted, have an adoption certificate.
- Original birth certificate and a photocopy.
- 3 copies of invoices or payment receipts.
- Digital passport-size photograph.
- Your recommender’s national ID and photocopies. Recommenders may be advocates, doctors, civil servants, or religious leaders.
- Applicants below 18 years should submit their parents’ or guardians’ written consent.
- If applying for a replacement, the applicants must have the old passport.
