PARIS, France — Motorsport’s global governing body has cancelled two major Formula racing events scheduled for April, citing security concerns linked to the ongoing situation in the Middle East.
In an official statement, the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) confirmed that the Bahrain Grand Prix and the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix will not take place as originally planned.
The organisation said the decision followed careful evaluation of the evolving regional situation and consultations with key stakeholders.
“It has been confirmed today that, after careful evaluations, due to the ongoing situation in the Middle East region, the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix will not take place in April,” the FIA said.
No replacement races
According to the statement, several alternative scheduling options were considered. However, the FIA ultimately decided not to introduce substitute races in April.
The cancellations will also affect other motorsport series scheduled to run alongside the Formula One events.
Rounds of the FIA Formula 2 Championship, FIA Formula 3 Championship, and the F1 Academy will also not take place during the previously scheduled period.
Consultation with F1 stakeholders
The FIA said the decision was reached following consultations with the Formula One Group, local race promoters, and regional member clubs.
“The decision has been taken in full consultation with Formula One Group, local promoters and our Member Clubs in the region,” the statement said.
