NAIROBI, Kenya – As Kenya prepares to co-host the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), fans are being reminded to strictly follow stadium rules—or risk being turned away.
The Local Organising Committee (LOC) for CHAN 2024 has issued a list of prohibited items ahead of the tournament, which runs from August 2 to August 30.
The directive is aimed at bolstering safety and ensuring smooth matchday experiences across venues in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
Here’s what you’re not allowed to bring:
- Noise-making devices: This includes vuvuzelas, megaphones, whistles, loudspeakers, and drums—tools traditionally used to energize crowds, but now banned for security and sound management.
- Signal-blocking gadgets: Any item capable of interfering with communication networks or emergency response signals is off-limits.
- Offensive or political paraphernalia: Banners, signs, or flags with inflammatory or political messages won’t make it past the gates.
- Outside food and beverages: Takeaways, bottles (including plastic), and other refreshments from outside will not be allowed inside the stadium.
- Restricted personal items: Helmets, pets, and any object that can be considered a potential weapon—including firearms—are strictly prohibited.
The LOC emphasized that these measures are meant to enhance crowd control and fan safety, especially after announcing earlier that there will be no ticket sales at the gates on match days.
Kenya will kick off its CHAN 2024 campaign against DR Congo on August 3 at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, where security will be tight and these rules strictly enforced.
Football fans are urged to arrive early, carry only permitted items, and bring the “Pamoja” spirit—Kenya’s rallying call as it positions itself for a successful AFCON 2027 bid.
