The entertainment world is reeling from heartbreaking news as reports emerge that Sailors Gang member Shalkido, born Samuel Mwangi, was declared dead following a gruesome hit-and-run accident along Thika Road on Sunday morning, October 5, 2025.
The 27-year-old artist had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral & Research Hospital (KUTRRH), where doctors were battling to stabilize his condition since the early hours of Sunday.
“Gengetone artist Shalkido has passed away following a tragic motorkibe accident,” comedian Oga Obinna wrote on his Instagram page.
He had earlier been declared brain dead by the doctors at KU.
Eyewitnesses and first responders recount that the accident occurred at around 4:42 a.m., near Githurai, when Shalkido was reportedly hit from behind by a speeding vehicle that fled the scene.
Bystanders and good Samaritans rushed to his aid and alerted emergency services, who transported him to the hospital unconscious and bleeding.
Medical examinations later revealed severe internal bleeding in the brain, multiple hemorrhages, and a broken leg. Doctors determined that the head injury was too extensive for surgical intervention.
Comedian and media personality Oga Obinna, was among the first to confirm Shalkido’s critical state in an emotional video shared online.
In a recent episode of his online talk show, Obinna reflected on how Shalkido had appeared vibrant and full of plans just days earlier, during what would now be one of his last public appearances.
“He was talking about music, about a comeback, about how far Sailors had come. None of us imagined something like this could happen,” he added.
Shalkido rose to fame in the late 2010s as part of Sailors Gang, the pioneering Gengetone group known for hits like Wamlambez, Pekejeng, and Queen B. The group helped redefine Kenya’s urban sound and gave rise to a new era of street-savvy, youth-driven music.
Even after the group’s split and a quieter period in recent years, Shalkido remained a beloved figure in the industry — known for his humility, humor, and deep connection with fans. His chemistry with fellow members Miracle Baby, Masilver, and Lexxy Yung was credited for much of Sailors’ signature energy and success.
News of his condition has sparked an outpouring of emotion from fans, fellow musicians, and industry players.
Whether through his music or his quiet determination, Shalkido remains a symbol of Gengetone’s resilience — the dream that ordinary Nairobi youth could build something iconic from the ground up.
