Legendary Kenyan musician Mr. Lenny has postponed the launch of his long-awaited comeback album, Hisia Zangu, following the death of his mother.

The singer made the heartbreaking announcement after his mother passed away on July 23, just days before the highly anticipated album launch that had been scheduled for Saturday, August 1, 2026, at BLA BLA Nairobi in Westlands.

In an emotional statement shared on his Instagram page, the celebrated artist asked fans, friends and industry colleagues for understanding as he and his family navigate the difficult period of mourning.

“It is with great humility and sadness that I announce the cancellation of my Album Launch on the 1st of August due to the Loss of my Dearest Mother who passed on 23rd July. We shall communicate on the new date in due course. I humbly ask for your understanding, prayers and support during this difficult time.”

The announcement drew an outpouring of condolences from fans and fellow entertainers, many of whom sent messages of comfort while encouraging the musician to take the time he needs to grieve.

The launch of Hisia Zangu had been billed as one of the biggest nostalgia-filled events on Kenya’s entertainment calendar this year.

Organised by Sapat Music, the event was expected to reunite some of the biggest names from Kenya’s urban music scene, particularly artists who helped shape the Genge movement in the early 2000s.

Promotional campaigns had rallied “Wagenge” to attend the launch in large numbers, while the “One Stage” concept promised surprise appearances from legendary musicians and leading entertainment personalities.

The exclusive concert was set to begin at 7 p.m. at BLA BLA Nairobi, with advance tickets retailing at Sh 2,500.

For many longtime fans, the event represented more than just an album launch. It marked Mr. Lenny’s official return to the spotlight after years away from the mainstream music scene.

Hisia Zangu, which translates to My Feelings, is widely viewed as one of the singer’s most personal musical projects to date.

Known as Kenya’s “King of Collabos” because of his numerous collaborations that dominated local airwaves in the early 2000s, Mr. Lenny has spent months teasing the album as a fresh chapter in his career.

Although the musician described his mother’s passing as sudden and shocking, it followed a period during which she had been battling illness.

Mr. Lenny had previously spoken publicly about caring for his ailing mother while also coming to terms with the earlier loss of his father.

Alongside postponing the launch, Mr. Lenny assured supporters that the album has not been shelved permanently.

He confirmed that updates regarding his mother’s funeral arrangements will be shared through his official social media platforms.

The singer also said his management team will announce a new date for the Hisia Zangu launch after the family has completed the mourning period.
