Chants Fill Nairobi CBD as Protesters Demand Action on Abductions: “Wako Wapi?”

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Chaos erupted in the heart of Nairobi’s central business district (CBD) on Monday as police clashed with protesters demanding answers and accountability for a string of abductions across the country.

Carrying placards and chanting “Wako Wapi?” (“Where are they?”), the demonstrators converged along Aga Khan Walk, where they read out the names of missing persons.

Their aim: to pressure authorities into taking decisive action to locate the abducted individuals and to curb the rising cases of disappearances.

“We will not be silenced until the government tells us where our loved ones are,” said one protester.

However, the peaceful gathering quickly escalated into chaos as police deployed teargas to disperse the crowd.

Protesters scattered, but a determined section regrouped, reigniting chants that echoed through the city streets.

Cases of abductions have spiked in recent months, sparking widespread concern and calls for greater accountability.

Many of the abducted are reportedly human rights defenders, activists, and ordinary citizens, according to local advocacy groups.

Civil rights groups have called for independent investigations into the disappearances and greater transparency in handling such cases.
