KIRINYAGA, Kenya- DCP officials in Kirinyaga County have launched an intensive membership recruitment campaign alongside a public sensitization drive aimed at encouraging residents to actively participate in upcoming party primaries.
The county-wide exercise seeks to register new members while educating voters on the importance of taking part in the party nomination process as a way of strengthening internal democracy.
Party coordinator Kahiga Kiguru said the initiative is designed to protect the integrity of the party’s primaries and prevent interference from rival political interests.
“We fear that external forces may try to infiltrate our party primaries. This sensitization campaign will help genuine members participate fully in the nomination process and lock out non-members,” Kiguru said.
He added that educating members would help prevent manipulation and disruptions that have previously affected party nominations.
“Sensitizing our members will help stop interference in the management of party primaries through manipulation, obstruction, violence, intimidation, and disruption. We want such problems to be a thing of the past,” he said.
Kiguru noted that the party has put in place strict safeguards to ensure transparent and credible nominations.
“We have established watertight measures to guarantee that our nominations are transparent and meet the highest standards of integrity. We are working to curb voter suppression, bribery, and administrative sabotage, which go against the Political Parties Act,” he said.
He emphasized the importance of party membership in strengthening democratic participation.
“There is a need to educate people on the importance of registering as members of a political party so they can fully participate in party affairs and the democratic process, and influence leadership and policies through party primaries,” Kiguru added.
County chairman Justus Munene urged voters and political aspirants to formally register as party members.
“We are calling on Kirinyaga electorates and all those seeking political seats to ensure they are registered members of the DCP party. Membership is key to active participation,” Munene said.
He said party membership opens doors for political growth and engagement.
“Being a registered member allows one to take part in recruitment drives, rallies, and outreach programmes, which are important for anyone building a political career, especially aspirants,” he added.
The officials also condemned what they described as attacks on opposition leaders during political gatherings in Kenya.
“We condemn the alleged attacks on opposition leaders and the disruption of their rallies. Political competition should be peaceful and democratic,” the officials said.
