Delta Subsidiary Planes Collide at LaGuardia Airport, One Hospitalized

Date:

NEW YORK — Two planes operated by Delta Air Lines’ regional subsidiary, Endeavor Air, collided Wednesday evening on a runway at New York’s LaGuardia Airport, officials confirmed.

The incident occurred at 9:58 pm local time (0158 GMT Thursday), involving one aircraft landing and another preparing for takeoff, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said in a statement.

One person was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while Delta reported that a flight attendant sustained a minor injury.

According to Delta, preliminary information indicates that the wing of the plane taxiing for departure to Roanoke, Virginia, made contact with the fuselage of the arriving aircraft.

The two jets carried a combined total of 93 passengers and crew members.

Photos circulated by U.S. media showed visible damage to the nose of one plane, though AFP could not independently verify the images.

The Port Authority said that airport operations were not affected, and Delta emphasized that it will “work with all relevant authorities to review” safety procedures following what it described as a “low-speed collision during taxi.”
