Deputy Gov’t Spokesperson Mwanaisha Chidzuga Absolves Police from Cases of Abductions: “Pigeni Ripoti”

Date:

MOMBASA, Kenya – Deputy Government Spokesperson Mwanaisha Chidzuga has strongly defended the National Police Service (NPS) over the ongoing abduction of government critics in the country.

Speaking to Msenangu FM in Mombasa, Chidzuga claimed that the word abduction was being misused.

“Let us be careful because the security officers are being slandered, and we are letting the criminals who committed the evils pass by anonymously while slandering the police,” Chidzuga said.

What parents and families of abducted Kenyans should do

Chidzuga, a trained journalist, asked the parents and families of those who were kidnapped to go and file a report as soon as possible so that an investigation could be done without blaming the security officers.

“Let’s not be quick to point fingers at the police; report the police officers to investigate these cases without blaming these police officers so that the investigation can be done,” said the deputy government spokesperson.

In her own words, she went on:

“Youth issues and cartoons. You have freedom of expression, but limits, freedom, and measurements should exist. And we are very grateful to President William Ruto because what is happening in other countries that I will not mention would not be acceptable with such cartoons.”

Her remarks come after Ugandan activist, politician, singer, lawyer, and actor Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known by his stage name Bobi Wine, condemned the ongoing abductions in Kenya.

What Bobi Wine said about the ongoing Kenyan abductions

In a lengthy statement posted on his official X account, Bobi Wine observed that it was sad to see how quickly Kenya is descending from being regarded as a beacon of hope for the troubled East African region.

“To now being known for abductions of young citizens critical to the government of the day, as well as being a playground for dictators to abduct those opposed to their repressive regimes!” Bobi Wine posted.

There have been significant concerns regarding abductions in Kenya, particularly involving government critics and other individuals, since the anti-government protests began in June 2024.

According to the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), at least 82 people have been abducted by unidentified armed individuals, with 29 still unaccounted for.

This trend highlights a troubling escalation in clandestine operations aimed at silencing dissent.
