NAIROBI, Kenya – City lawyer Donald Kipkorir has been thrown into a state of mourning following the death of veteran journalist Rasna Warah.
Warah, a journalist and writer with over two decades of experience, passed away following a long battle with cancer.
Taking to his official X account (formerly Twitter), Kipkorir termed Warah a patriotic Kenyan who put her country first.
“It isn’t all the time to find such good people that love their country more than the country loves them. Rasna Warah was an exceptional Kenyan,” wrote Rasna.
According to Kipkorir, the fallen scribe who served as an editor at the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), he sacrificed everything for Kenya.
“Kenya never celebrates its true patriots. But for us, we will. Rest with the Angels, Rasna,” wrote the flamboyant city lawyer.

Warah is renowned for advocating for a better nation through effective leadership and her passion for justice.
The government offered condolences to her husband, BBC journalist Grey Phombeah, in addition to mourning the late journalist.

Rasna Warah’s journalism career
Other Kenyans and notable leaders also bid farewell to the 63-year-old journalist, remembering her love for justice in the country.
“Rest in power Rasna Warah. You ran a good race and left an indelible mark on our nation through your writings. You spoke truth to power fluently, and your work will live on. May the afterlife be kind to you,” said Boniface Mwangi.
She wrote a weekly opinion piece for the Daily Nation during her time with the Nation Media Group (NMG).
Several regional and international journals, including The East African, The Elephant, Kwani, The Mail and Guardian, the UK’s Guardian, and Africa is a Country, featured Rasna’s outstanding contributions.
In addition to earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Women’s Studies from Suffolk University in Boston, USA, Rasna also received a Master’s in Communication for Development from Malmö University in Sweden.
