NAIROBI, Kenya – Prominent lawyer Donald Kipkorir has sparked fresh debate on global migration after arguing that the United States should shut its doors to refugees and immigrants from Third World countries until their leaders are held accountable for decades of mismanagement and plunder.
In a statement, Kipkorir said U.S. President Donald Trump was justified in tightening visa rules for people from Africa, Latin America and the Middle East, claiming that many of these regions are endowed with immense natural wealth but remain impoverished due to corruption and poor governance.
Kipkorir cited examples such as the Democratic Republic of Congo, which he described as having “some of the largest mineral deposits in the world,” Nigeria’s oil reserves, Zimbabwe’s abundant resources, Somalia’s rich fisheries and Mozambique’s vast gas fields.
President Donald Trump is right in tightening visas of people from Third World Countries. Africa, Latin America & Middle East Countries are abundant with natural resources. DR Congo has some of the largest deposits more than any other country in the world. Nigeria has abundant
He further pointed to South Sudan’s forest resources and Liberia and Sierra Leone’s diamond and gold deposits.
Despite these natural assets, he noted, some smaller nations without comparable resources — including Belgium, Israel, Switzerland and Singapore — enjoy far greater economic prosperity.
According to Kipkorir, the disparity is driven by systemic corruption.
“Since independence, Third World countries have allowed their leaders to plunder their resources and ship the proceeds to tax havens and to Dubai,” he claimed.
He argued that until citizens in Africa, the Middle East and Latin America demand transparency and accountability from their governments, the U.S. should restrict entry to migrants and asylum seekers from those regions.
Kipkorir’s remarks come amid ongoing global debates on migration, national security and how wealthy nations should respond to economic and political instability abroad.
