Douglas Kanja Sworn in as 6th Inspector General of Police

NAIROBI, Kenya- Douglas Kanja Kirocho has officially taken the reins as the 6th Inspector General of the National Police Service (NPS) following his appointment by President William Ruto. 

Kanja’s confirmation comes after the National Assembly approved his nomination, marking a new chapter in Kenya’s law enforcement leadership.

During the rank investiture at State House, Nairobi, President Ruto lauded Kanja’s extensive career in the police force, emphasizing his discipline, dedication, and leadership capabilities. 

“In Kanja, we have a seasoned leader; a disciplined career police officer and a dedicated Kenyan. I have faith in his capability in providing leadership to the National Police Service,” Ruto remarked. 

The President’s endorsement reflects confidence in Kanja’s ability to steer the NPS in safeguarding the nation.

Kanja, who previously served as the Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service, brings years of experience to his new role. 

His appointment is expected to reinforce the government’s commitment to ensuring national security and upholding the rule of law.

President Ruto used the occasion to reiterate the government’s unwavering support for Kenya’s security agencies. 

“The rule of law is the bedrock of our democracy. We must obey and submit to it for the stability of our country,” he said, adding that the government will continue backing efforts to keep Kenya safe and secure.

The National Police Service, under Kanja’s leadership, is poised to tackle challenges in maintaining law and order across the country, ensuring that the safety of citizens remains a top priority.

In a ceremony presided over by Chief Justice Martha Koome at the Supreme Court, Kanja took his Oath of Office and Oath of Secrecy, cementing his new role.
