NAIROBI, Kenya — Presidential aspirant Eliud Owalo has called for urgent investigations into the reported disappearance of former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju, urging police to act swiftly and update the public.
In a statement issued Sunday, Owalo said he was deeply concerned by reports that Tuju went missing, and appealed to the Inspector General of the National Police Service to direct all relevant units to begin coordinated investigations immediately.
“I respectfully call upon the Inspector General of the National Police Service to urgently direct all relevant police formations and investigative agencies to commence speedy, thorough, and coordinated investigations into this matter, and urgently update the Kenyan public on the same,” Owalo said.
He noted that under the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, and the National Police Service Act, the State has a duty to protect life, liberty, and security of every person, and to investigate incidents that threaten those rights.
Owalo urged the National Police Service to act with urgency, keep Tuju’s family informed, and take all lawful steps necessary to establish his whereabouts and ensure his safety.
The former government official also appealed to members of the public to share any credible information that could assist investigators in tracing Tuju.
“I also appeal to any member of the public who may have credible information that could assist in revealing the mysterious disappearance of Hon. Tuju to lay bare this information in the public domain,” he added.
Owalo said he stands in solidarity with Tuju’s family, friends, and colleagues, describing the situation as a difficult moment that has caused anxiety among Kenyans.
The call adds to growing pressure on authorities to clarify the circumstances surrounding Tuju’s disappearance after his vehicle was found abandoned in Karen, Nairobi, with his phones reportedly switched off since Saturday.
