Faith Mwaura Dumps Moses Kuria’s CCK For UDA

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — Roysambu constituency aspirant Faith Mwaura has defected from Moses Kuria’s Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) party to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), as political realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election begin to take shape.

UDA confirmed Wednesday that Mwaura formally joined the party during a visit to its headquarters, where she was issued with a life membership certificate after ending her association with CCK.

The defection comes amid intensified registration of UDA aspirants following the establishment of the party’s Aspirants Forum, a platform aimed at coordinating prospective candidates ahead of the next election cycle.

Mwaura, who is seeking to contest the Roysambu parliamentary seat, was accompanied by hundreds of supporters and received by UDA Vice Chairperson Kevin Lunani, according to a party statement.

UDA did not disclose the circumstances surrounding her exit from CCK or whether her move was linked to nomination prospects, internal party dynamics, or broader coalition calculations ahead of 2027.

The party said aspirant registration has gained momentum, with its headquarters experiencing increased activity as hopefuls seek to align themselves with the ruling party well ahead of nominations.

According to UDA, registered aspirants are scheduled to hold a consultative meeting with President William Ruto at State House on February 4, 2026. The party has not provided details on the agenda of the meeting or how it fits into formal nomination procedures.

UDA emerged as the largest political party after the 2022 General Election and currently controls the presidency and a majority in Parliament. The party has since embarked on early mobilisation efforts, internal restructuring, and digital registration of aspirants.

Under the Political Parties Act, political parties are required to conduct transparent, democratic, and verifiable nomination processes. Party primaries have historically been a major source of electoral disputes and post-election litigation.

UDA said aspirants seeking to contest on its ticket can register through its official online portal. The party did outline nomination timelines, fees, or internal dispute resolution mechanisms for the 2027 primaries.
