Friday Power Alert: Kenya Power Announces Outages in Several Areas

Nairobi, Kenya- Kenya Power has announced planned electricity interruptions for this Friday, May 2, 2025, affecting select areas in Uasin Gishu and Kisumu counties.

These scheduled outages are part of routine maintenance operations aimed at improving service reliability and ensuring grid stability.

Residents and businesses in the affected regions are advised to plan accordingly to minimize disruption.

Uasin Gishu County – Kapseret Area

In the North Rift Region, parts of Uasin Gishu County, particularly Kapseret, will experience a scheduled outage between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM.

Areas to be affected include:

  • Kapseret Centre
  • Cibien Quarry
  • St. Georges Chepkatet
  • Surrounding customers

Kenya Power recommends that residents in these areas prepare for the six-hour blackout by securing backup energy sources and safeguarding sensitive electronics.

Kisumu County – Tamu and Songhor Areas

In the Western Region, parts of Kisumu County, specifically Tamu and Songhor, will go without electricity from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Affected locations include:

  • Awasi Market
  • Gogni Quarry
  • Wellsoil Quarry
  • Rockland Quarry
  • Nyangoma Hospital
  • Adjacent customers

Health facilities like Nyangoma Hospital are encouraged to activate backup systems. Businesses in quarries and markets should also adjust their operations to accommodate the eight-hour power cut.

Kenya Power routinely carries out scheduled maintenance to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the national electricity grid. These preventive efforts help minimize future unplanned outages and extend the lifespan of essential infrastructure.

In addition to these planned outages, the utility company may implement unscheduled interruptions due to:

  • Equipment malfunctions
  • Severe weather conditions
  • Acts of vandalism
  • Wildlife-related disruptions

Residents are urged to take necessary precautions during the outage period, including unplugging sensitive devices and making alternative power arrangements where necessary.
