Gachagua Warns of Plot to Divide Mt Kenya Ahead of 2027 Election

Date:

BOSTON, U.S. – Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has warned residents of the Mt Kenya region to stay alert to what he described as a deliberate scheme to divide the region’s political unity ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking during an interview in Boston, United States, on Friday, Gachagua claimed that recent political moves and endorsements — especially by leaders like former Presidential advisor Moses Kuria — are part of a broader strategy orchestrated from within the Kenya Kwanza administration.

“When you see a party or an individual like Moses Kuria praising certain ideas or directions, understand that it is aligned with what the President wants,” Gachagua said. “This is not accidental. There is a calculated political strategy to divide Mt Kenya votes into two blocs.”

Gachagua claimed such political maneuvers were not reflective of the region’s interests, but rather aligned with State House interests.

He urged Mt Kenya voters to remain united and discerning, warning that internal actors could be used to execute external agendas.

‘Unity Over Short-Term Politics’

The DCP leader clarified that his remarks were not meant to sow division, but to promote vigilance and regional cohesion.

“This is a time for our people to reflect, not to quarrel. Unity is strength, and that is what we must safeguard above all else,” he said.

He called on Mt Kenya residents to focus on the long-term political and economic wellbeing of the region, instead of being swayed by short-term political realignments or “praise-singing” from leaders with ties to the presidency.

Gachagua’s comments come just weeks after Moses Kuria announced his resignation as Senior Advisor on Economic Affairs in President William Ruto’s office — ending a nearly three-year tenure in the Kenya Kwanza government.

In a statement posted on X, Kuria said he had personally informed President Ruto of his decision, which the Head of State “graciously accepted.”
