NAIROBI, Kenya – Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah has urged Kenyans to reject tribal narratives and embrace the promise of a unified Kenya as envisioned by the 2010 Constitution.
He praised the Generation Z revolutionaries for their courage and determination in combating impunity, tribalism, and other forms of political decay.
Senator Omtatah emphasized the historic significance of holding public leaders accountable to national values, irrespective of their tribal affiliations.
“For the very first time, public leaders have been held accountable to our national values, irrespective of where they come from,” he stated.
This accountability, according to Omtatah, is a critical step towards a more just and equitable society.
The senator also noted the significance of recent demonstrations in traditionally political strongholds such as Eldoret and Nyeri.
These areas, being the political backyards of the President and the Deputy President, respectively, have seen citizens demand accountability and transparency from their leaders.
Omtatah condemned any attempts to revive the tribal narratives of the past, which he described as “shameful” and “obsolete.”
He criticized those who seek to pit tribes and regions against each other, thereby dragging Kenya backwards.
“We must condemn in the strongest terms possible attempts by those cannons of the past, who are trying to revive the tribal narratives of the shameful old political order where tribes and regions were falsely pitted against each other,” he said.
Senator Omtatah called for continued vigilance and accountability from those in authority, urging them to account for recent violence and abductions associated with constitutionally-sanctioned peaceful demonstrations.
“Going forward, those in authority must be held to account, their communities notwithstanding,” he asserted.
Omtatah concluded his statement with a call for the nation’s youth to remain steadfast in their pursuit of a great nation free from tribal divisions.
He reaffirmed the importance of Kenya’s tribeless youth movement and its potential to bring about positive change.
“Kenya’s tribeless youth movement’s promise of a great nation must not be lost!” he declared.
