KISUMU, Kenya — Roots Party leader Prof. George Wajackoyah has paid a moving tribute to the former Prime Minister, late Raila Amolo Odinga, describing him as a rare statesman who embodied forgiveness and unity even in the face of hostility.
“One thing I learnt from Raila is to love my enemies, because he truly did,” Wajackoyah said. “Some insulted him, yet he still laughed with them and even appointed them. That’s the mark of a true leader.”
The former presidential candidate added that Raila’s brand of politics — centered on reconciliation rather than revenge — would guide his own political journey as he prepares to contest the 2027 General Election.
“As I prepare to run in 2027, I’ve told my supporters not to insult Ruto, Raila, or Gachagua but to embrace each other. Kenya needs love, not division,” he said.
Wajackoyah praised Raila’s enduring courage, describing him as a man who “fought dictators with a smile” and “chose dialogue over destruction.”
“Raila was not just a politician. He was a unifier. Even those who didn’t vote for him respected him deeply. He leaves behind a legacy of peace, courage, and humanity,” he remarked.
The Roots Party leader concluded by urging political leaders to honor Raila’s memory by fostering unity and mutual respect, saying, “If Baba could forgive, then none of us has an excuse to hate.”
Raila Odinga’s burial is set for Sunday at his rural home in Bondo, Siaya County, where thousands are expected to attend.
