NAIROBI, Kenya — Veteran lawyer Donald B. Kipkorir has paid an emotional tribute to the late former Cabinet minister and businessman Cyrus Jirongo, describing him as a deeply charitable man whose generosity defined his life despite human frailties.
In a personal reflection shared following Jirongo’s death, Kipkorir said the former KANU-era powerbroker possessed a “golden heart” and was known for giving selflessly, often parting with the last money he had to help those in need.
“Cyrus Jirongo, like many, had human frailties but unlike most, he was a good man. He was charitable to a fault,” Kipkorir said, adding, “May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
Kipkorir also recounted his long-standing personal connection with Jirongo, tracing it back to 1992 when he was a student at the Kenya School of Law. He recalled that the late Victor Kebenei, then Jirongo’s close aide, introduced him to Jirongo and President William Ruto during that period.
According to Kipkorir, the relationship with Jirongo endured over the decades, marked by consistent communication and personal warmth.
“He never changed his number and kept in touch throughout,” he said.
The tribute adds to a growing body of reflections portraying Jirongo as a complex but influential figure whose political career and personal generosity left a lasting imprint on Kenya’s public life.
