IGAD Strongly Denies Granting Kenya Permission to Host Sudan’s RSF in Nairobi: “Fake News Alert”

Date:

DJIBOUTI, Djibouti – The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has strongly refuted claims that it sided with Kenya in the deepening crisis in Sudan.

In a statement, IGAD clarified that that it had not issued any official press release concerning the ongoing Ramadan peace process.

According to the fake statement over Kenya’s involvement in the Sudan crisis, IGAD’s had allegedly commended President William Ruto for the “bold and unwavering commitment to regional peace and stability.”

“His recent engagement with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) marks a first crucial step in the diplomatic process aimed at fostering dialogue and de-escalating tensions as part of the Ramadhan Peace Process,” the fake statement according to IGAD reads in part.

What the IGAD statement further dismissed

The statement further stated that Kenya had historically played a vital role as a diplomatic big brother in the Horn of Africa, and President Ruto’s leadership to exemplify the spirit of reconciliation and inclusive diplomacy.

It showed that IGAD reaffirms its support for Kenya’s efforts in bringing all parties to the table to secure a lasting resolution to the crisis.

“We call on all stakeholders to embrace dialogue, uphold restraint, and commit to an inclusive peace process that will bring stability and prosperity to the region.IGAD stands ready to support Kenya’s diplomatic efforts in pursuit of sustainable peace,” reads the statement.

In another fake news Alert, IGAD strongly denied condemning the ongoing disarmament exercise in Uper Nile State, South Sudan which is being carried out by “non-unified forces”.

The fake statement showed that the process threatens peace and stability in South Sudan and risks escalating among communities.

‘Disarmament is a critical step towards lasting security, but it must be conducted in a fair, transparent and cooperative manner. The current process undermines the Revitalized Peace Agreement and creates misunderstanding among signatory parties. We urge the Government of South Sudan to immediately cease this exercise and instead prioritise the formation of unified forces that represent all parties to the deal,” the statement reads.

What IGAD advised the media and the public

The statement also claimed that IGAD stands in solidarity with the people of South Sudan and reaffirms its commitment to supporting genuine peace efforts.

“Disarmament must be done the right way-with consensus, coordination, and full implementation of the peace process.”

But in a quick rejoinder, IGAD said that

any statements attributed to the regional body on these matters should be verified through it’s official communication channels.

“We urge media and the public to rely on IGAD’s verified platforms for accurate information. For official statements and updates, please follow our website and social media accounts,” IGAD said in a statement.
