Isiolo, Kenya — Detectives have launched investigations after a secondary school deputy headteacher was found murdered and his body dumped by the roadside on the outskirts of Isiolo Town.
The victim, identified as William Mwangi Gitobu, 31, was the deputy headteacher at Leparua Secondary School.
Police said he was attacked on February 18, 2026, while riding home from his workplace in the Burat area.
According to investigators, Mwangi was stabbed multiple times by unknown assailants who then stole his motorcycle and fled the scene.
His body was later discovered with stab wounds to the chest and ribs.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending a post-mortem examination and further investigations.
The killing sparked protests on Thursday, with fellow teachers and residents demanding swift justice and improved security in the area.
Demonstrators expressed concern over rising insecurity, particularly attacks targeting motorcycle riders.
Police said no arrests had been made by Thursday but added that officers were pursuing strong leads in the case.
Authorities noted that incidents involving riders being attacked and robbed of their motorcycles have been on the rise.
In many cases, the stolen bikes are transported and sold in other regions.
The murder has renewed calls for enhanced patrols and stronger measures to curb violent robberies in Isiolo and neighbouring areas.
