JUJA, Kenya – Juja MP George Koimburi was arrested outside his home on Tuesday morning and taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters for questioning.
Koimburi, a vocal government critic, was apprehended shortly after leaving his residence on Kenyatta Road in Juja.
The circumstances surrounding his arrest remain unclear, with authorities yet to issue an official statement.
His detention comes just days after he alleged that the government spent Ksh 13 billion campaigning for Raila Odinga in the recently concluded African Union Commission (AUC) elections.
Kenya’s bid for the AUC chairmanship ended in failure, fueling political tensions.
Speaking before his arrest, Koimburi claimed that two Subaru vehicles had been stationed outside his house before DCI officers intercepted him and transported him to Kiambu Road.
His arrest adds to the growing political friction in the country, with opposition figures questioning government spending and transparency in the AUC election campaign.
Police are yet to confirm whether his detention is linked to his recent statements.
