NAIROBI, Kenya — High Court Judge Peter Mulwa has been sworn in as the new President of the Kenya Magistrates and Judges Association (KMJA) after being elected unopposed in the association’s just-concluded polls.
Justice Mulwa takes over from Justice Stephen Radido, whose term has officially ended, marking a smooth transition in the leadership of the body that represents Kenya’s judicial officers.
The swearing-in ceremony, held at the Argyle Grand Hotel in Nairobi, brought together judges, magistrates, and senior members of the Judiciary who lauded the seamless handover as a sign of institutional maturity within the association.
In his acceptance remarks, Justice Mulwa pledged to build on his predecessor’s legacy by strengthening judicial welfare, independence, and professionalism.
“Our mission remains clear — to safeguard judicial independence and enhance the well-being of all judicial officers. We must continue to serve with integrity and unity,” he said.
Outgoing president Justice Radido congratulated his successor, urging continued collaboration between KMJA and the Judiciary’s top leadership to ensure a cohesive bench and bar relationship.
KMJA, established under the Societies Act, is a key professional body that advocates for the interests of judges and magistrates, promotes judicial reforms, and defends the independence of the Judiciary.
Justice Mulwa’s ascension comes at a time when the association has been actively engaging on issues of judicial welfare, workload management, and court infrastructure — priorities expected to define his tenure.
